Doctor Who: Bells of Saint John prequel

Yes! Doctor Who is back in one week, and we now have a short prequel to the first episode since the hiatus, "The Bells of Saint John." The prequel is a bit predictable, but it makes up for that in cuteness.

Writers of the Future, Quarter 1

I think I must have skipped here on this blog my result for Quarter 4, which was an honorable mention. I've received another one in Quarter 1. So, the running tally for 17 straight quarters of entering this contest is:
  • 1 semi-finalist
  • 1 silver honorable mention
  • 10 honorable mentions
  • 5 rejections
I've been working on an entry for Quarter 2 and have managed to produce two unusable stories. One or both would probably earn me yet another honorable mention, but I am of course aiming higher than that. So I'm working on my third short story this month. I have higher hopes for it than the previous two, but we'll see when the results come out for the next quarter a few months from now.

Fireside Magazine Year 2 is a go

Thanks to 729 backers making pledges worth $26,050, plus a huge final two-day push by editor Brian White and others -- the Fireside Magazine Kickstarter reached its goal! I hope as publication begins this summer that word will spread and subscriptions will go up and Fireside will be around for a long, long time to come. And for me personally this is fantastic news because it's now official that "Catch a Fallen Star" will see publication sometime in 2013 or 2014.

Despite that grand success, the Kickstarter nail-biting is not yet done. Raygun Chronicles has 28 hours to reach its goal of $8,000 in pledges. It's still a couple thousand dollars short but narrowing the gap all the time. This is an anthology of 23 space opera stories, including one of mine but also stories from well-established science-fiction writers you've heard of and love.
